After over two years as WIT's Program DIrector, Murphy McHugh will be stepping down from his position at the end of June. Though he will no longer be part of WIT's full-time staff, Murphy isn't going anywhere. WIT is happy that he will continue to help make improv at WIT happen in the most awesome ways possible.
He will also continue on in his capacity as a teacher in WIT's faculty, as a performer with WIT ensemble Season Six, as a coach for Harold Team King Bee, and in any other purely artistic capacities that may emerge.
Murphy joined the WIT staff after a year volunteering with the company, already performing as a member of the Season Six ensemble. Once on staff, Murphy started the Harold Teams program (and Harold Night as a part of it), created and managed runs of Cage Match, added sketch-writing as an elective in WIT's class offerings, and introduced youth classes to WIT.
At the time of Topher Bellavia's departure from the managing director position last year, Murphy took on responsibility for the Classes program where he continued that program on a path of growth, breaking enrollment records along the way. His counsel and collaboration in all matters regarding WIT's performances have been invaluable and will be sorely missed around the office.
Murphy's work has been fundamental in creating and furthering improv opportunities for hundreds of folks in WIT's community. We hope everyone will join us in wishing him well in his transition.
Below, Murphy performs in the much-loved show Yojimprov as part of Improvapalooza in August 2011.
