WIT ensemble JINX is unscripted comedy that doesn't go for the cheap punchline. We figure, you can either laugh or cry at the human condition--so have yourself a good cry, then come to a JINX show and laugh it out. We're cheaper than therapy, and funnier than a drinking binge.

A graduate of the WIT conservatory and proud member of JINX, Michael Bird has been inviting people into his imagination on stage since 2004. He got his start at the University of Texas eventually becoming the captain of the short-form student troupe, GigglePants. While in college, Bird trained at all five long-form schools in Austin including Coldtowne Theater. He also had an improv stint in Chicago to train at the Annoyance Theatre. Bird has also studied at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in DC.
Jules Duffy began improvising while living in Chicago, where she studied at iO and the Second City Conservatory and improvised with Old West Family Photo and The Improvised Radio Program. When she returned to her native DC, she was delighted to find more of her kind at JINX and WIT. She loves the creativity, camaraderie, and discovery. Also, improv provides her with an interest to list beyond happy hour and The Television.
Justus Hammond has been doing stand up since kindergarten, but is also a graduate of the WIT conservatory program. He believes that many people enter the world of Improv for one of the 3 P's: for play (i.e. just for fun), for professionalism (i.e. public speaking and work); performance (i.e. stage work), or even better for all of the P's... He is currently a member of the WIT ensemble JINX and WIT Harold team Capybara. He is also a member of the former WIT Harold team Private Elevator and is a current member of The Lodge Improv Troupe. And he currently trains at Studio Theatre.
Jamie Lantinen cut his teeth in improv at the Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis. It was there he learned phrases like “cut your teeth” and “bring around the dog sled.” Jamie continued teething with unparalleled instruction at WIT, performing with one of WIT’s inaugural Harold Teams, Private Elevator, as well as local groups The Quest and DMG. Jamie’s other performance credits include some musical theater and British farce in the Boston area. In addition to balancing budgets during the day and using big words like “unparalleled,” Jamie sings in the shower and is thinking about ordering the P90x challenge. Again.
Mark Pagán (Director) began his improv training with UCB in New York followed by years of performing with NYC ensemble, Street Meat. For the last four years, Mark has been involved in WIT as both teacher and performer, with ensembles Season Six and Caveat. Mark is thrilled to be directing the talented group that is JINX. Aside from the improv life, Mark is a filmmaker and educational advocate for kids that don’t know no better than to have him as an educational advocate.
Michelle Guardino Swaney [on hiatus] is an Italian girl from Staten Island, New York. And she’s a lawyer. Terrified yet? Good. Sometime in the past, Michelle performed with Boston College's improv troupe, My Mother's Fleabag, and she later played with East Bay Improv in California. Then, citing creative differences with her inner child, she accidently put her creative self on extended hiatus while she started a career. But as with all complicated relationships, she couldn't stay away. So shortly after moving to DC in 2006, Michelle signed up for WIT's training program and fell in love with improv all over again. Besides being delighted to be a JINXee, Michelle is proud to be a part of WIT’s Jackie, 2008 FIST champs Polygamy, and 2009 FIST champs Not Mad. Disappointed. That one guy laughing at all her jokes, that’s her husband Steve.
